The short answer

Online spiritual care is one-to-one support for your faith and inner life, delivered over video by a trained pastor, biblical counselor, or chaplain. It covers growth, prayer, doubt, grief, and the seasons in between. It is pastoral rather than clinical: it works on meaning, belief, and relationship with God, and it does not diagnose or treat a medical condition.

Two different things share this name

Search for online spiritual care and most of what comes back is hospital chaplaincy and the degree programs that train for it. That is real spiritual care. It is just not the kind most people are looking for when they type it, so it is worth separating the two before you spend time on the wrong one.

  • Hospitals, hospice, military, prisons

    Institutional chaplaincy

Spiritual care attached to an institution and to a crisis that institution is already managing. You rarely choose the chaplain, and the relationship usually ends when the stay does. Most of what the phrase returns online is this, or the degree programs that train for it.

  • Wherever you are, by video

    One-to-one spiritual care

You choose the person, you set the rhythm, and nothing has to have gone wrong to start. This is the kind BetterFaith provides: a vetted pastor or biblical counselor meeting you for 50 minutes at a time, for as long as it is useful.

    This is what BetterFaith does.

What online spiritual care covers

Two groups, split by who carries the work. Discipleship guides and pastors handle growth, attention and practice. Biblical counselors handle the seasons that need repair.

How a session works

Format
Video. Fifty minutes, face to face, from wherever you are. No app to install beyond a browser.
Matching
A two-minute intake on theology, season and the kind of person you want, then a guide matched to it rather than assigned at random. If the first one is not right, switching takes one message.
Who you meet
A pastor or masters-level biblical counselor who has been credentialed, background-checked, theologically reviewed and interviewed in person. The whole process is published, and so is every guide on the roster.
Cadence
Yours. Some people book once and that is a complete use of this. Others settle into weekly or every other week for a stretch. No subscription, no minimum.
Cost
$100 per session, charged after you meet rather than when you book. Church partners and reduced-rate options are on the pricing page.

Where spiritual care stops

Spiritual care is pastoral. It works on belief, meaning, prayer and the relationship with God underneath all three. It does not diagnose, it does not treat, and it is not therapy.

When what someone is carrying belongs with a licensed therapist or a physician, the guide says so plainly and helps them find one. That is a normal outcome here, not a failed session, and a good many people do both at once.

Common questions

What is online spiritual care?

Online spiritual care is one-to-one support for your faith and inner life, delivered over video by a trained pastor, biblical counselor, or chaplain. It covers growth, prayer, doubt, grief, and the seasons in between. It is pastoral rather than clinical: it works on meaning, belief, and relationship with God, and it does not diagnose or treat a medical condition.

Is online spiritual care the same as a hospital chaplain?

No, though the two share the name. Chaplaincy is spiritual care attached to an institution: a hospital, a hospice, the military, a prison. A chaplain meets you inside a crisis that institution is already managing, and you usually do not choose them. BetterFaith is the other kind: you pick a guide, you meet on your own schedule, and nothing has to have gone wrong for it to be worth doing.

Is online spiritual care the same as therapy?

No. BetterFaith is spiritual care and biblical counseling, rooted in scripture and delivered by pastors and masters-level biblical counselors. It is not therapy, treatment, or clinical care, and our guides do not diagnose. If what you are carrying calls for a licensed therapist, your guide will say so plainly and help you find one. Plenty of people do both.

Who provides the care at BetterFaith?

Vetted pastors and biblical counselors, not volunteers and not a directory of strangers. Every guide is credentialed, background-checked, theologically reviewed, and interviewed in person before taking a single session, and their education and approach are published on their profile before you book.

How much does online spiritual care cost?

At BetterFaith, $100 for a 50-minute session, charged after you meet rather than when you book. There is no subscription and no minimum number of sessions. Many churches subsidize or fully cover sessions for their people, so it is worth asking your pastor.

Does insurance cover it?

No, and that is structural rather than an oversight. Insurance reimburses licensed clinical care against a diagnosis. Spiritual care has no diagnosis to bill, which is also why it has no intake paperwork, no treatment plan, and no record that follows you.
